Sing the Bible - 2 Timothy 1:13-14
I hope you’re all enjoying the first few weeks of spring. We’ve got daffodils and crocuses and even our first tulip has arrived! Much of the grass is overrun with weeds, but this week even the weeds are a glorious sea of tiny yellow flowers.
Today’s weekly Scripture song is from 2 Timothy 1:13-14.
Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
Paul is writing to Timothy - a young man in the “spring” of his discipleship. He says to "follow the pattern” Paul has set for him, “in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus,” and "by the Holy Spirit who lives within us."
I love this verse because it reminds me that it’s not enough to just “follow the pattern.” That plan is doomed from the start. It is only by active faith in Jesus and reliance on the Holy Spirit’s power that I have any hope of walking in obedience to Scripture. And even then I’m likely to mess it up.
But, when my eyes are on the cross, even my stumbling is redeemed and glorifies Jesus, like the buttercups popping up all around the garden.
Here’s a song to help you remember 2 Timothy 1:13-14.
